The CEI is an independent organization established in 1986, embracing secondary school students, teachers and mentors, whose interests are focused specifically on the issues of environmental protection, promoting education, shaping awarness and training within sustainable development.
We are coming from nearly 50 countries from the most far corners of the world. Some countries have established National Branches of CEI.
How it began? - please read the story written by Ms. Isabel Abrams, CEI Director of Communications, co-founder of CEI.
The President of CEI India is Mr. Abhishek Dutt, who is an educationist and consultant by profession, has been involved actively for restructuring, reviving and evolve the activities within India and has inherited the thoughts of selflessness from Mr. Ravi Dutt, Founder President and Chief Patron CEI India under the aegis of "Indian Assembly of Youth" (estd. 1955) - an NGO affiliated to Social Development Commission of the U.N.O.

Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
What does it take to enable students to see the planet as one interdependent environment?
Caretakers of the Environment (CEI) believes this can best occur through having students meet and work together.
By organizing annual international conferences, making available a periodical for teachers and students by teachers and students, establishing national branches and organizing national and regional workshops, CEI tries to establish a worldwide network of secondary school teachers and students who are actively concerned about environmental issues and who are willing to do something about these issues through their education and their action-taking.
The network intends to be a podium for teachers and students to exchange concerns, ideas, strategies, actions and projects in the field of environmental education.
On a daily basis the caretakers carry out various tasks like improving water quality, helping endangered species, community enhancement projects, planting trees, for the benefit of the environment in their local communities. Each year we organize an international conference CEI, in a different host country. Here caretakes present their projects, participate in workshops and learn about the country organizer, discuss with each other and have fun. CEI also produces a publication called the Global Forum, which highlights the various projects by delegations from different countries as well as research from scientists from around the world.

22 April 2020
The 50th Earth Day will take place on April 22 and I hope that many Caretakers students and teachers will celebrate by planting a seed. CEI has had a “Seeds of Biodiversity” project for many years. This could be a delightful project that can be done while confined at home.
There are 2 kinds of seeds you can plant: 1. A seed from a green plant – from a fruit, vegetable, tree or shrub.Put it in a small pot with soil, water it, and record when its roots and leaves appear, and how tall it grows. You will be amazed at how fast nature can change. 2. A seed of knowledge – about climate change, loss of coral reefs, pollution, recycling, loss of species or other issues. Express your idea in a poem, painting, skit, dance, or other art.A seed is a symbol of regeneration, something to celebrate on Earth Day.After that, I hope Caretakers will share what happened to our seeds during beautiful days when we take a walk, or when we talk on virtual meetings on Zoom or at the CEI conference in July.
